We voted overwhelmingly in favor of joining forces with 1199SEIU!

The results were 97 percent in favor of the merger, which will dramatically increase our effectiveness in our hospitals, nursing homes and communities.

Congratulations to Our Two Healthcare Florida Members Who Were Named "Nurse of the Year"

SEIU Healthcare Florida is beaming with pride following the  announcement of two of its members in two different counties being named RN of the Year.

In Palm Beach County, Eithne Kadri, an RN for 36 years and, in Miami RN Rose Marie Lopez was bestowed with the same recognition! "I love being a bedside nurse; being considered Registered Nurse of the Year by Palm Healthcare is an added bonus," Eithne told us.

Our Registered Nurses of the Year agree that being union members gives them a voice in the direction of the profession.

All we can say is, "Awesome, awesome, awesome!"

Honoring Claudette Fay Barrett 1948-2010

claudette barrett 1948-2010, nursing home member

One of the founders of our union passed away before she could actually become a dues paying member.  Claudette Barrett was a leader during the organizing campaign at Sunrise Nursing home in Broward where they voted for the union in 1997.  It took 13 years to get to the bargaining table because the employer filed objections and appeals all the way to the Circuit Court, designed to delay & deny justice. Click here to read a report by American Rights at Work entitled Some of Them are Brave, that profiles the Sunrise workers’ organizing challenges.
