Our Victories

Hundreds of SEIU Healthcare Florida members have lobbied to improve quality of care in Florida's nursing homes and hospitals. Here's what we've won:

In our Facilities...

  • Implementing the nation's leading safe staffing standard in Florida's nursing homes.
  • Expanding healthcare access for uninsured children through KidCare.
  • Helping to pass laws that provide concrete solutions to the staffing crisis, like the landmark legislation in California calling for minimum staffing levels in health care facilities.

Our History

In just 10 years, we've grown  from a handful of facilities to a statewide movement of healthcare workers fighting for quality care for our patients and residents, fair working conditions and improved pay and benefits. We represent more than 20,000 nurses, professional employees, certified nurses aides, service and technical employees, and other hospital and nursing home employees.

In 2008, Florida was ranked 50th for unionization in the nation. Public policies in our state are not favorable to unions, and despite these obstacles, SEIU Healthcare Florida has grown almost ten-fold in the past 10 years, from a little over 1,000 members to well over 10,000.

Our Community Supports Us...

"I was outraged by the unfair treatment of workers at Fountainhead, so I began efforts to form a union at the nursing home, With the help of my colleagues, we eventually succeeded in our efforts to unite together in a union by joining Flordia Healthcare Union"
