Nursing Home CEOs: WE WANT A CONTRACT NOW!

RioPinar_picket_2009
Enough is enough.
It’s time to tell nursing home CEOs we want a contract that values our work.

Call a CEO today! Tell him/her:

“Your representatives have refused to settle a fair contract that values our work.  We helped you fight off Medicaid cuts but we have seen nothing in return.  This has taken too long.  We're asking you to get personally involved before this situation gets worse.”

Representative Ronald Brisé Stands With Nursing Home Workers

dec09_picket_brise

Thousands of us told our stories to the state legislature about why we need 2.9 levels restored and we won. Now that we helped win funding for the nursing home industry, the employers are stabbing us in the back at the bargaining table. We want respect!

The funding was supposed to ensure that those who care for Florida’s most vulnerable populations are given the resources they need to provide these important services. Now that we are at the bargaining table,  the industry is refusing to pay living wages for our lifesaving work.WE DEMAND TO KNOW: WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?

2.9 Staffing Ratio Restored July 1, 2009

SEIUSeacrestMembers_damaris_danaOn July 1, 2009, the restoration of the 2.9 CNA staffing ratio took effect in every nursing home in Florida.

Thanks to SEIU Healthcare Florida members who worked hard to win back 2.9 this legislative session!

If you have any questions about staffing levels in your facility call your union representative or call the union office: (888) 313-4448.

Nursing Home Worker Issues

Safe Staffing
When there aren’t enough staff hours to provide care, caregivers and residents suffer. Nursing home workers experience higher rates of injuries and higher levels of stress and frustration. This leads to high turnover results and rushed c

Long Term Care Transparency and Accountability

A New York Times analysis found that when private equity firms take over nursing homes, the quality of patient care provided falls dramatically and that deliberate corporate restructuring minimizes tax responsibilities and makes it difficult for the Agency on Healthcare Administration (AHCA) to hold nursing homes accountable for the care they provide.
