Nursing Home Leaders' Action Brings Us Closer to the Finish Line

After many months of tough negotiations, your SEIU Healthcare Florida bargaining committee and Sea Crest reached a tentative agreement for a new union contract.

We endured a long fight, and we believe the agreement we reached with Sea Crest contains significant improvements, despite negotiating during the worst economic situation we’ve ever seen.  In fact, Sea Crest and many other healthcare employers have declared wage freezes for 2010.

Nursing Home Worker Issues

Safe Staffing
When there aren’t enough staff hours to provide care, caregivers and residents suffer. Nursing home workers experience higher rates of injuries and higher levels of stress and frustration. This leads to high turnover results and rushed care.

Long Term Care Transparency and Accountability

A New York Times analysis found that when private equity firms take over nursing homes, the quality of patient care provided falls dramatically and that deliberate corporate restructuring minimizes tax responsibilities and makes it difficult for the Agency on Healthcare Administration (AHCA) to hold nursing homes accountable for the care they provide.
