What is COPE?

Why Contribute to COPE?
COPE allows us to contribute to the campaigns of pro-worker candidates.  SEIU Healthcare Florida must be involved in electing candidates at all levels of government who value, believe in and will stand up for public employee issues.

By law, our union cannot use our union dues for federal political contributions. Contributions to state and local candidates are made through the SEIU political entity registered in Florida, called the SEIU Florida State Council.

Why Is SEIU Involved in Politics?Healthcare workers' collective bargaining rights, job security, working conditions, and benefits are decided by elected officials. To do an effective job in collective bargaining, SEIU members must be involved in electing candidates to school boards, city councils, county commissions, Governor, State Legislature, President, and Congress, who value, who believe in, and who will stand up for working people's issues at the decision making table.

How is the Money Used?Every COPE dollar goes into SEIU's political account for use in local, state and federal political activities.  COPE contributors and MPOs make recommendations about who we endorse and how we spend COPE contributions.

Who Does SEIU Support?SEIU Healthcare Florida supports pro-SEIU, pro-worker candidates in local, state and federal election campaigns. We are bi-partisan, supporting both Republicans and Democrats who support our issues.  If you want to be part of the committee that helps choose our candidates, contact your local representative and become a Member Political Organizer (MPO).
